Summer (Rain,rain) ?07

Things in the Group have been going swimmingly. Everyone enjoyed the District Centenary Camp; we had nearly 80 taking part from 3D and 650 in total. It wasn?t what we had envisaged from a leader?s point of view; it turned out to be hard work. The kids, however, had a great time with lots of activities laid on. The weather was great which helped. I got a sore head at the campfire and believe someone was hitting me with a bigger spoon than I thought! I have thanked the team that ran the event and passed on my thanks to the other leaders that helped (except one). It?s hoped that we can have a similar event in the future.

At the end of May, the County (Greater Manshester West) held their Centenary Camps at Middlewood, Bispham Hall and Dunham. GM East held their camp at Linnet Clough. Altogether there were something like 6,000 people taking part. The band had been asked to put on workshops and short concerts at each site and to take part in the opening and closing ceremonies at Linnet Clough. The weather over the weekend was not too good but it didn?t stop everyone enjoying themselves. What?s a little rain and mud! It didn?t stop the 1907 drummers playing their way round each site and your ears do recover after 3 x two hours of hundreds of kids blowing and banging instruments. The instruments, however, may not.

Wednesday 1st AUGUST will be the Sunrise Ceremony. This was to be at 5U but it?s now going to be at the Trafford Centre. The mobile Display unit will be there on Tues, Wed, Thurs, with displays open to the public, promoting Scouting. So this will be the centre for the event in our County. The Band will be playing there on the Sunday prior to going to the Jamboree. Hopefully, you will see them on the big screen. It would be nice for as many as possible to go. For more details you can pick up a ?What?s on? leaflet at the Trafford Centre.

BEAVER PAGES

Beavers is now a full colony with a few names on the waiting list. However, three are about to move up to Cubs, Edward, Jack and Alistair, so we will be able to take in some boys and girls off the list. We have had as many meetings outside as possible, tracking, a bike night, looking at our surroundings etc., whilst the weather was kind. One of the Dads brought his model helicopter along to show us, with a few of the Beavers having a go at flying it. RAF, look out.

Cubs Sally is about to do some recruiting for the cubs so if you have brothers or sisters, cousins, friends or neighbours who are between 8 and 10 see if they are interested. We like to give siblings and friends of existing members priority. The mini gang show was great, with every cub taking part and gaining their entertainers badge. ?Well Done?. It?s also nice to see Stuart back after his time at Gilwell. With the Jamboree just a few weeks away Sally has invited two people who have attended one to come along and give a short talk. (Dennis who went to Korea and myself who went to Greece!)
